Republican senators to hold roundtable on unaccompanied migrant children at the border

A group of Republican senators are expected to host a roundtable discussion about the exploitation of unaccompanied migrant children at the U.S. southern border.

Entitled "[t]he Exploitation Crisis: How the U.S. Government is Failing to Protect Migrant Children from Trafficking and Abuse," the event will be held July 9 and hosted by Sens. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa; Ron Johnson, R-Wis.; and Bill Cassidy, R-La.

"The roundtable will examine the failures of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)'s Unaccompanied Children (UC) program, which has allowed thousands of vulnerable migrant kids to be lost or handed over to potential criminals," Grassley said in a press release.

Republicans have expressed concern in the past for unaccompanied migrant children at the border. Last year it was reported that the Biden administration lost track of about 85,000 children who entered the U.S. without an adult.
