Scientists sue academic journal that retracted studies citing dangers from the abortion pill

A group of 10 scientists is filing a lawsuit against an academic journal that retracted articles, or studies, citing the dangers of the abortion pill, arguing that the retractions were politically motivated.

The scientists are from the Charlotte Lozier Institute and they are being represented by the Alliance Defending Freedom and Consovoy McCarthy.

The scientists allege that Sage Publishing violated a California law when it removed articles published in 2021 and 2022 that warned about the risks and dangers that can happen to women when they take an abortion pill.

These retractions occurred just weeks before the U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments about abortion pills, according to The Daily Wire.

“By retracting three studies by Charlotte Lozier Institute scholars without any legitimate objection to any of the findings, Sage put politics over publication ethics and blatantly disregarded the principles of open inquiry and commitment to science,” Dr. James Studnicki, vice president and director of data analytics at Charlotte Lozier Institute said, according to the outlet.

“The authors’ well-earned reputations as highly qualified scientists and researchers have been immeasurably harmed," the statement continued. "We’re hopeful this opportunity to compel Sage to arbitrate in good faith will shed light on their meritless actions to silence our research."
