Senate Republicans push for RNC co-chair Lara Trump to replace Marco Rubio

Florida GOP Sen. Rick Scott on Thursday pushed for Gov. Ron DeSantis to appoint Republican National Committee co-chair Lara Trump to fill Sen. Marco Rubio's seat now that he has been tapped for Secretary of State.

Trump, the daughter-in-law of President-elect Donald Trump, expressed interest in the position on Thursday, and said she would be honored to fill the role if asked.

Scott indicated earlier this week that several people could fill the position, but on Thursday said he hopes DeSantis will tap Lara Trump. DeSantis is expected to choose a replacement soon who would serve the remainder of Rubio's term through 2026.

"I've known her for a long time. Actually knew her before I met Eric Trump," Scott told Axios. "[Lara Trump] did a great job with the RNC. She's great spokesperson. She's conservative."

Scott doubled down on his endorsement in a post on X, stating that she would be a "GREAT Senator and represent Floridians well!"

Republican South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham also expressed his support for the RNC chairwoman on Wednesday, commenting that while DeSantis would make the decision, he believed she would be a great choice, according to The Hill.

“I would love to have her as a colleague,” Graham told Fox News host Sean Hannity. “That’ll be up to Gov. DeSantis, but we could not do better on the Republican side than Lara Trump.”
