Stefanik and Banks introduce bill aimed at preventing encampments, 'mob riots' at universities

Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., House GOP conference chairwoman and Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind.) introduced the No Tax Dollars for College Encampments Act on Monday that would require universities to enact and follow rules related to protest encampments.

According to Stefanik's office, the bill would make "federal accreditation" for U.S. universities "contingent on having and abiding by rules and procedures to stop encampments, campus building takeovers, and other civil disturbances on campuses following anti-Israel encampments rising up on university grounds across the country."

Stefanik said she is "committed to ridding universities of the antisemitic rot corrupting our students and making campuses dangerous and unwelcoming to our Jewish communities which is why I am proud to help lead the No Tax Dollars for College Encampments Act.

She also said the bill would hold university leaders accountable and "prevent the disgraceful mob riots we saw overtake campuses across the country including Columbia University and make sure school leaders are enforcing policies against hostile campus takeovers."
