Texas AG Paxton announces $1.4 billion settlement with Meta over biometric data capture

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton won a $1.4 billion settlement from Meta on Tuesday as a result of the company's "unauthorized biometric data capture from millions of Texans without informed consent," Paxton's office said.

Paxton's office announced that the settlement is the largest "ever obtained from a single state action."

He said the settlement was the result of the state's "commitment to standing up to the world’s biggest technology companies and holding them accountable for breaking the law and violating Texans’ privacy rights."
