A federal judge in Texas on Wednesday issued a temporary order preventing the Trump administration from deporting Venezuelan migrants being held in a detention facility in the state.
The Trump administration is attempting to deport the migrants under the Alien Enemies Act.
Those being held are purportedly members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, an assertion their attorney denies, according to The Associated Press.
Meanwhile, Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein, a federal judge in New York, said he is planning to sign a similar order for two Venezuelan migrants held in a facility in his state.
On Monday, the Supreme Court ruled that the Trump administration could use the Alien Enemies Act to deport Venezuelans that were accused of being gang members, but it also ruled the administration had to let the alleged gang members legally fight deportation orders.
