The Texas Supreme Court on Friday unanimously rejected a challenge to Texas’ laws banning abortion.  

The state banned abortion, with the exception of abortions needed to save the life of the pregnant woman, after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022. 

The law was challenged in March 2023 when five women who sought abortions after the ban went into effect were denied despite potential health consequences if their pregnancies weren’t terminated, according to The Hill newspaper.

When the case was argued in November, the suit included a total of 22 women and two doctors. The plaintiffs sought to clarify what circumstances warranted an abortion under the law. 

In its ruling Friday, the Texas Supreme Court decided that the law’s medical exceptions do not need to be clarified.
