Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump on Saturday paid tribute to slain Trump supporter Corey Comperatore who died at the previous Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13.
"Corey Comperatore was an incredible husband and father, a devout Christian, a veteran and a proud former fire chief," Trump said. "Very respected within the town. Everybody knew him."
Trump returned to Butler for a rally on Saturday where he held a moment of silence for Comperatore while "Ave Maria" was sung live in memory of him.
There was an assassination attempt on Trump's life on July 13 in Butler where the former president was shot in the ear.
Comperatore died shielding his wife and daughters when the gunshots went off, saving their lives.
"He gave his life to shield their lives," Trump said. "Every father [and] husband in America hopes that if the time came, we would have what Corey had: tremendous courage, tremendous guts and he wanted to protect his family."
Comperatore's widow, daughters and sisters were in attendance at the Saturday rally.
