Trump takes lead over Biden in New Jersey in new poll

Presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump leads President Joe Biden in New Jersey in a poll that came out earlier this week.

According to Project 538, Trump leads Biden by one point at 41% to 40% support. This survey was taken June 26-27 by co/efficient, described by the New Jersey Globe as a "newish, little-known independent survey firm in Kansas City."

Trump and Biden squared off Thursday in the first presidential debate on CNN, after which a large majority of registered voters said that they believed Trump won.

A CNN poll showed 67% said Trump outperformed Biden compared to 33% who said Biden outperformed Trump.

Trump is expected to be nominated as the GOP presidential candidate at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in July.

Biden is expected to be nominated as the Democratic presidential candidate in August at the Democratic National Convention, though since the debate on Thursday there are increasing calls by politicians and media organizations for him to step down as the candidate.

If that were to happen, or if someone challenged Biden at the convention, there are several scenarios that could occur, depending on the circumstances. If, for example, he waits to step down until after he is nominated at the August convention, then it would be up to the members of the Democratic National Committee to choose an alternate candidate, according to U.S. News,

The next presidential debate is scheduled to be hosted by ABC News in September.
