Trump taps Brendan Carr to chair Federal Communications Commission

President-elect Donald Trump announced Sunday night that he will name Federal Communications Commissioner Brendan Carr to chair the commission that oversees broadcast television, radio and cellular bandwidth.

Trump noted he first nominated Carr to the FCC in 2017 and he was confirmed unanimously by the Senate.

"Commissioner Carr is a warrior for Free Speech, and has fought against the regulatory Lawfare that has stifled Americans’ Freedoms, and held back our Economy." Trump said in a statement released by his transition office.

"He will end the regulatory onslaught that has been crippling America’s Job Creators and Innovators, and ensure that the FCC delivers for rural America," he added.

Carr was the FCC’s general counsel and the adviser to former FCC Chair Ajit Pai before he was confirmed as a commissioner. He is currently the senior Republican on the FCC.
