President Donald Trump on Thursday insisted that he opposed an Israeli strike on Iran amid ongoing nuclear negotiations with Tehran, saying that action from Israel could upend the talks.
His comments came amid mounting reports that Israel planned to launch a unilateral attack on Iran to prevent their development of a nuclear weapon.
“As long as I think there is an agreement, I don’t want them going in because I think that would blow it," Trump told reporters. "Might help it, actually. But also could blow it... But we’ve had very good discussions with Iran."
High-profile conservative influencers have begun to publicly urge the administration against working with Israel on military operations against Iran, warning that such a move would split the MAGA base and have disastrous consequences for the Trump presidency.
"Trump is winning big on immigration right now and riding high in the polls. An attack on Iran would change the entire narrative and split MAGA coalition. America supports mass deportation!" wrote Jack Posobiec.
"No issue currently divides the right as much as foreign policy," Charlie Kirk said of the issue. I’m very concerned based on every[thing] I’ve seen in the grassroots the last few months that this will cause a massive schism in MAGA and potentially disrupt our momentum and our insanely successful Presidency."
