U.S. military will be removing the Gaza pier due to bad weather: report

The U.S. military is removing the Gaza pier as a result of poor weather, the Pentagon confirmed on Friday.

As of now, it is not clear when, or if, it will be re-anchored, according to The Hill.

Pentagon deputy press secretary Sabrina Singh explained that high winds and the heavy seas have caused the military to dismantle the Gaza pier and have it sent to the Israeli port city of Ashdod.

She said she does not have a timeline of when it will be back.

“When the commander decides that it’s the right time to reinstall that pier, we’ll keep you updated on that,” she said, according to the outlet. “As we always said with the pier, it is meant to be temporary."

The pier had come online last month and allowed millions of pounds of humanitarian aid to be delivered through the maritime corridor amid the Israel-Hamas war.

The $230 million pier has been removed three times since its installment due to accidents and bad weather.
