Waltz, in one of his final interviews in NSA post, tells JTN that US has gangs, terrorists on run

Outgoing National Security Advisor Mike Waltz in one of his final interviews before exiting the administration, Just the New that the U.S. under President Trump has gangs and terror networks – inside and outside of the U.S. – on the run.

Waltz will soon resign from his post, a senior administration official confirmed with Just the News on Thursday.

The departures follow an incident in March in which a journalist was included in a Signal group chat Waltz organized for top national security officials to discuss plans for a military strike on Houthi targets in Yemen.

In an April 22 interview with the Just the News, No NoiseTV show, Waltz said Trump ordered air strikes and other operations during his first three months back in office that have killed 74 leaders of terrorist groups plotting to strike Western assets and the U.S. homeland.

“I can tell you, from ISIS to al-Qaeda, to groups like Al-Shabab, all have plots and plans to hit the homeland once again, And if you look under the Biden administration, with a wide-open border, that was incredibly dangerous,” he said.

Here are some of the other highlights of that interview:

  • Under the Trump administration, Waltz said that drug cartels and gangs could face military action, referring to the groups as similar to ISIS.

"These groups aren't like the mafia, they're more like ISIS,” Waltz said. “They are combating the Mexican army in full-on-fire fights. They're shooting at aircraft.”

Trump has ordered thousands of active-duty troops to the southern border to help border patrol agents get illegal immigration under control and have more tools to take on drug cartels from Mexico.

  • Waltz praised Secretary of State Marco Rubio for reforms at the department.

Earlier this month, Rubio released an organization chart on Tuesday outlining reforms to the State Department, including eliminating around 17% of the agencies' offices and 15% of the employees in the department.

"We are streamlining government across the board, and we finally have taken that step with the President and with the State Department," Waltz said. "So this is another great day for the American taxpayer. I think that says we want to see results."

  • Waltz said the U.S. was going to transition to European-led security infrastructure for the continent as part of a plan to end the ongoing war in Ukraine.

"He is going to continue [to] demand 5% of their GDP heading into a big NATO Summit this year," Waltz said. "A key pillar of this is that Europe take the lead for Europe's security. Yeah, that'd be a historic moment. Already historic progress on the front but getting to that next phase will really be historic for the American economy."
