The suspect believed to be responsible for the fatal shooting of two Israeli embassy officials was charged on Thursday with murder of foreign officials, along with other charges, according to court filings.

The suspect has been identified as 30-year-old Elias Rodriguez from Chicago. Rodriguez allegedly killed Israeli embassy staffers Sarah Milgrim and Yaron Lischinsky outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday night.

He now faces five charges, including two counts of first-degree murder, murder of foreign officials, causing the death of a person through the use of a firearm and discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence.

U.S. officials have referred to the shooting as an "act of terror," which appeared to be an antisemitic attack. Rodriguez shouted "Free Palestine" during the shooting, and later turned himself in.
