President Trump dropped a bombshell announcement Wednesday, an immediate tariff hike on China, jacking it up to a hefty 125% while granting a 90-day tariff reduction to 10% for over 75 other countries.
In a Truth Social post, Trump wrote that the action was being taken due to China’s “lack of respect for the World’s Markets,” after it increased retaliatory tariffs on US goods to 84 percent.
Trump further noted, “At some point, hopefully in the near future, China will realize that the days of ripping off the U.S.A., and other Countries, is no longer sustainable or acceptable.”
He added, “Conversely, and based on the fact that more than 75 Countries have called Representatives of the United States, including the Departments of Commerce, Treasury, and the USTR, to negotiate a solution to the subjects being discussed relative to Trade, Trade Barriers, Tariffs, Currency Manipulation, and Non Monetary Tariffs, and that these Countries have not, at my strong suggestion, retaliated in any way, shape, or form against the United States, I have authorized a 90 day PAUSE, and a substantially lowered Reciprocal Tariff during this period, of 10%, also effective immediately.”
Within minutes, the stock market exploded into a sea of green.

However, Treasury Secretary Bessent contended “This was driven by the president’s strategy,” adding “You might even say that he goaded China into a bad position. They responded. They have shown themselves to the world to be the bad actors, and we are willing to cooperate with our allies and with our trading partners who did not retaliate.”
“It wasn’t a hard message. Don’t retaliate. Things will turn out well,” Bessent further emphasised.

This isn’t just a slap on the wrist—it’s a full-on gut punch to Beijing, aimed at leveling the playing field for American workers who’ve been screwed over by decades of spineless trade deals.
