FBI Intercepts Election Day Plot by Afghan Migrant to Attack Large Crowds

Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi arrived in US on an immigrant visa in 2021.

The FBI has intercepted a terror attack plot targeting large crowds on election day by an Afghan immigrant who was inspired by ISIS.

27-year-old Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, who arrived in the US in 2021 on an immigrant visa, was living in Oklahoma City and allegedly stockpiled a huge arsenal of weapons in preparation for the attack.

The Justice Department said Tawhedi had taken steps to liquidate his family’s assets as he readied himself to use semi-automatic guns to fire on Americans heading to the polls on November 5th.

The suspect is accused of donating to a charity that funnels money to the Islamic State and reportedly researched states with lax gun laws.

Tawhedi is also “alleged to have checked surveillance cameras in Washington DC and viewed webcams showing streams of the White House and Washington Monument,” reports the Telegraph.

Communications were intercepted between Tawhedi and someone he thought was involved IS recruitment and training of potential terrorists.

The suspect also allegedly recorded statement about martyrdom and the benefits of securing a place in the afterlife.

Tawhedi has been charged with two crimes – conspiring and attempting to provide material support to IS and receiving a firearm to be used to commit a felony or a federal crime of terrorism.

He could face a prison sentence of up to 35 years.

“The Justice Department foiled the defendant’s plot to acquire semi-automatic weapons and commit a violent attack in the name of Isis on US soil on election day,” said Merrick Garland, the attorney general.

“We will continue to combat the ongoing threat that Isis and its supporters pose to America’s national security, and we will identify, investigate, and prosecute the individuals who seek to terrorize the American people.”
