Texas Congressman Claims Mysterious Objects Are “Spy Drones” Sent By China
Texas Congressman Michael McCaul claims the mysterious flying objects seen over the United States in recent weeks are most likely “spy drones” from China.
The Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee made the comments before a classified briefing to members of the House intelligence committee.
“We want answers but the response I’m getting is we don’t know whose drones these are,” McCaul told reporters.
“We need to identify who is behind these drones,” he added. “My judgment based on my experience is that those that are over our military sites are adversarial and most likely are coming from the People’s Republic of China.”
McCaul didn’t elaborate on what the evidence was behind his claim.
The Pentagon and the White House have repeatedly insisted that the drones were not launched by any foreign adversary and that they pose no threat to the United States.
As we highlighted yesterday, White House official John Kirby insisted that the wave of drone sightings represent “legal” and “lawful” activity, suggesting many of them were launched by “hobbyists”.
However, that doesn’t correlate with the fact that swarms of the objects have been seen in large numbers and the fact that some of them are the sizes of cars or even bigger.
On Tuesday, the Pentagon said it was deploying passive and active sensors to detect drone activity over military installations.
“We are employing a variety of both passive and active sensors in order to detect, as it pertains to DOD installations,” said Pentagon Press Secretary Air Force Major General Pat Ryder.
Last week, New Jersey Republican Congressman Jeff Van Drew claimed “high sources” told him the drones were coming from an Iranian “mothership” in the Atlantic.
“That mothership… is off the East Coast of the United States of America. They’ve launched drones into everything that we can see or hear,” Van Drew told Fox News.
Lawmakers were reportedly told during the classified intelligence briefing that the drones were manned aircraft, not UAVs.
