Russia has rejected the US-proposed ceasefire with Ukraine and Vladimir Putin has appeared on Russian state television in military fatigues.
It’s not all that promising for those who hoped to see a road to peace being put into place.
Yuri Ushakov, a senior aide to Putin declared that the 30 day ceasefire proposal that came out of an earlier US State Department meeting with Ukraine in Jeddah would be of no benefit to Russia and would only allow Ukrainian forces to regroup.
“Steps that imitate peaceful actions are not needed,” Ushakov further proclaimed, adding “our goal is still a longterm and peaceful settlement. We are striving for this.”

President Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, is traveling to Moscow to discuss the temporary truce proposal, but it seems fruitless, given that back in January Putin said he won’t settle for any temporary ceasefire.
“The goal should not be a short truce, not some kind of respite for regrouping forces and rearmament with the aim of subsequently continuing the conflict, but a long-term peace based on respect for the legitimate interests of all people, all nations living in this region,” Putin noted.
Putin was seen Wednesday visiting the Kursk region for the first time since Ukraine’s incursion into the territory over six months ago.
Russian President Putin came to visit the headquarters of the Kursk operation, dressed in military uniform. This does not seem like a signal that he is ready for a 'bad' peace.

“Our immediate goal is as soon as possible to conclusively destroy the enemy entrenched on the territory of Kursk region,” Putin said, while dressed in camouflage military fatigues.
Putin is getting ready to do a victory lap in Kursk, where Ukrainian forces have ceded significant ground to Russia in recent days.

Not often we see him in uniform. He said Ukrainian soldiers will be treated as "terorrists." pic.twitter.com/UjWaRR5PiC
Trump earlier this week threatened Russia with “devastating” consequences if Putin did not agree to the ceasefire, stating “There are things that wouldn’t be pleasant in a financial sense. I can do things financially that would be very bad for Russia. I don’t want to do that because I want to get peace.”
Trump added, “In a financial sense, yes, we could do things that would be very bad for Russia, that would be devastating for Russia. But I don’t want to do that.”
