Trump: “I’m Supposed To Be Dead”

Trump: “I’m Supposed To Be Dead”

“I’m not supposed to be here.”

In his first interview since the attempt on his life, Donald Trump told The New York Post that it is a “miracle” he is still alive, repeatedly stating “I’m supposed to be dead.”

Following on from his statement yesterday when he credited an act of God for saving his life, Trump described the experience as “very surreal.”

“The doctor at the hospital said he never saw anything like this, he called it a miracle,” Trump said.

“I’m not supposed to be here. I’m supposed to be dead,” he continued, before repeating “I’m supposed to be dead.”

Trump further noted that he was saved by an extremely slight head tilt which he made in order to read a chart of Border Patrol stats on illegal immigration.

The New York Times also reports that Trump told former White House physician Ronny Jackson that “The Border Patrol saved my life,” adding “If I hadn’t pointed at that chart and turned my head to look at it, that bullet would have hit me right in the head.”

Trump also said during the interview with the Post that Secret Service “hit” him “so hard” that his “tight” shoes came right off his feet.

Despite ongoing concerns over what appears to be an almost complete failure on security, Trump praised the Secret Service, noting of the shooter, “They took him out with one shot right between the eyes,” pointing to the bridge of his nose.

“They did a fantastic job,” Trump further stated, emphasising that “It’s surreal for all of us.”

The report notes that Trump watched video of the assassination attempt for the first time while being interviewed, and noted “By luck or by God — many people are saying it’s by God I’m still here.”

Trump also thanked the crowd for remaining relatively calm, noting “A lot of places, especially soccer games, you hear a single shot, everybody runs. Here there were many shots and they stayed.”

He also said that Joe Biden called him and expressed relief for Trump’s safety, which he described as “fine” and “very nice.”

Trump also stated that he has heard Biden intends to order the Department of Justice to drop its two prosecutions against him.

The classified documents case was today dismissed by Florida Judge Aileen Cannon, who ruled that the appointment of special counsel Jack Smith violated the Constitution. She did not rule one way or another on Trump’s alleged mishandling of classified documents.

Trump vowed to continue speaking in public, noting that he wishes to “unite our country.”
