During a rousing RNC speech Thursday, Donald Trump put up the chart of illegal immigration stats that saved his life and joked “Last time I put up that chart, I never got to look at it!”
“Less than four years ago I handed this administration the strongest border in American history,” Trump said, adding “but you can see on the chart that saved my life — that was the chart that saved my life. I said look, I’m so proud of it. It’s one of the greatest — it was done by the Border Patrol.”
As the chart flashed up on multiple huge screens, he continued, “One of the greatest charts I’ve ever seen and showed everything just like that. You know the chart. There it is. That’s pretty good. Wow.”
Trump added, “if you look at the arrow in the bottom, that’s the lowest level, that’s the one in the bottom, heavy red arrow — that’s the lowest level of illegal immigrants ever to come into our country in recorded history. Right there. Right there.”
“That was my last week in office. Then see what happened after I left. Look at the rest,” Trump urged, highlighting the huge spike.
“Go out a little further, it’s getting to be a little bit old, but I love it anyway; right?” he further joked.
Trump also urged that “Our opponents inherited a world at peace and turned it into a planet of war. We’re in a planet of war.”
“The discord and division in our society must be healed. We must heal it quickly. As Americans, we are bound together by a single fate and a shared destiny. We rise together. Or we fall apart,” Trump said, adding “I am running to be president for all of America, not half of America, because there is no victory in winning for half of America.”
Elsewhere during the speech Trump stated “I’m not supposed to be here tonight,” to which the crowd responded with chants of “Yes you are!”
He spoke about the attempt on his life and said that even though bullets were flying around his head, he felt safe because “I had God on my side, I felt that.”
