Trump’s New Border Czar: Deportations Will Be “Humane”; Military Will Not Be Used

“It’s going to be a well-targeted, planned operation”

President elect Donald Trump has appointed Tom Homan as his border czar, a White House role that will not require Senate confirmation. Homan was the former acting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) director under Trump, and has a hard line stance on illegal immigration.

Trump made the announcement late Sunday on Truth Social site, noting “I am pleased to announce that the Former ICE Director, and stalwart on Border Control, Tom Homan, will be joining the Trump Administration, in charge of our Nation’s Borders.”

“I’ve known Tom for a long time, and there is nobody better at policing and controlling our Borders,” Trump further wrote, adding “Likewise, Tom Homan will be in charge of all Deportation of Illegal Aliens back to their Country of Origin.”

“Congratulations to Tom. I have no doubt he will do a fantastic, and long awaited for, job,” Trump concluded.

In an appearance on Fox News, Homan was asked about how Trump’s promised mass deportations will be carried out.

He responded, “It’s going to be a well-targeted, planned operation conducted by the men of ICE. The men and women of ICE do this daily. They’re good at it.”

“When we go out there, we’re going to know who we’re looking for. We most likely know where they’re going to be, and it’s going to be done in a humane manner,” Homan added.

Homan confirmed that the military would not be rounding up and arresting immigrants.

In a further interview, Homan told Democratic governors that “If you don’t want to help us, get the hell out of the way — because we’re coming.”

Earlier this year at the National Conservatism Conference in Washington, Homan was asked about a potential mass deportation operation, and responded “Wait until 2025,” adding that “no one’s off the table. If you’re here illegally, you better be looking over your shoulder.”

He also urged, “you’ve got my word. Trump comes back in January, I’ll be in his heels coming back, and I will run the biggest deportation operation this country’s ever seen.”

During a CBS News interview last month, Homan was asked “Is there a way to carry out mass deportation without separating families?”

“Of course there is,” Homan responded. “Families can be deported together.”

Homan also noted how the notion of deportation should not be considered threatening to the immigrant community, only to the “illegal immigrant community.”
