Trump Tells Reporter He Won’t Take A Salary As President Again

“It’s a nice thing to do”

President Trump will forgo a salary once again during his second term as president, noting that no other president with the exception of George Washington has ever done it.

Trump made the announcement in an exchange with awkward NBC News reporter Kristen Welker, who clearly wasn’t impressed.

“I’m not going to accept a salary, no. I’m giving up a lot of money,” Trump told Welker, adding “Do you know what amazed me? Maybe this isn’t right, but other than George Washington—and they’re not sure about that—every President has accepted their salary except me.”

“You did accept the pension, correct?” Welker followed up, trying to catch Trump out.

“I don’t think so,” he responded, adding “I don’t think I accepted anything. The President gets about $450,000 a year, and I didn’t take it.”

Welker then just ignored Trump and attempted to move on, but he wasn’t having that.

“By the way, I got no credit for that. That’s okay,” he stated, adding “I don’t believe I got any credit for that, but I just feel for me, it’s a nice thing to do.”
