Wicked Movie Mocked For Warning About “Discrimination Against People With Green Skin”

Wicked Movie Mocked For Warning About “Discrimination Against People With Green Skin”

Green lives matter

The film version of the musical Wicked is being roundly slammed for a warning to audiences that it features scenes where a person with green skin is discriminated against.

More specifically, it is actually the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) that has cautioned UK viewers that the green-skinned Elphaba is unfairly mocked in scenes.

“A green-skinned woman is mocked, bullied and humiliated because of her skin color,” the warning reads.

The warning also notes that “a disabled woman in a wheelchair is treated in a condescending manner by able-bodied people.”

It also hilariously states that “Talking animals are persecuted in a fantastical society.”

Oh no! Won’t someone think of the… fictional talking animals.

Seems kinda obvious but lets point it out anyway… Green skinned people don’t exist outside of this entirely fictional presentation and the Hulk, the Grinch, Kermit the frog, Fungus The Bogeyman, and Shrek.

The BBFC website further explains that “seeing beloved characters being mistreated, especially when Elphaba’s skin-colour is used to demonise her as the ‘Wicked Witch’, may be upsetting and poignant for some audiences.”

The BBFC review system is supposed to warn viewers if a film contains graphic nudity, violence, or sex. It’s not supposed to warm them if a fictional witch is being bullied.

You’re supposed to find that out while watching the film. It’s supposed to be part of the plot, and yeah, you’re supposed to feel “upset” for the character. No one should have to be warned beforehand about this.

While this is not exactly a trigger warning, as some have suggested, because it doesn’t appear on screen before the film, it certainly feels like a trigger warning.

As we have highlighted, trigger warnings are added to practically everything in the UK now, prompting charges that the UK has become a snowflake society.

Meanwhile, like everything now, the Wicked film itself is being interpreted and touted by the alphabet crowd as some sort of activist production, when it’s clearly just a Wizard of Oz movie.
