AIPAC brags about its increasing influence over U.S. Congress

The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) is openly bragging about how it has expanded its influence over the politics of the United States, with 362 AIPAC-endorsed politicians winning their primaries and 11 so-called "anti-Israel candidates" being defeated.

Chris Menahan, writing for Information Liberation, noted that nobody can deny that there are major organizations influencing how politics works in the United States. With AIPAC publicly bragging about its success, it can be said that this Israeli government-funded and supported organization has just concluded one of the most successful foreign influence operations in American history as it successfully bought off lawmakers to promote the interests of Israel.

The day after the election, the major lobbying group published a video on its social media accounts bragging about how it "endorsed 362 candidates and won in every primary" it had a candidate on the ballot.

"We helped our friends win and defeated 11 anti-Israel candidates," the group wrote.

"I'm a firm believer that no candidate wins an election on their own. I just want to extend my sincere gratitude to this community for helping me get to Congress and ensure everybody that you're going to have a long-term friend," said Rep. Sarah K. Elfreth (D-MD) in the video. She received $4.2 million from AIPAC in her campaign for Maryland's third congressional district.

"[When AIPAC] comes in, it's like someone threw you a life raft," said John McGuire (R-VA), the Member-elect for Virginia's fifth congressional district who, with AIPAC funding, successfully challenged Rep. Bob Good in the primary and subsequently won the election.

Most members of Congress have "AIPAC babysitters"

As Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) mentioned early this year, practically every member of Congress has an "AIPAC babysitter" who guides them on how to vote in the interests of Israel. (Related: Rep. Thomas Massie tells Tucker Carlson every GOP member of Congress has an ‘AIPAC babysitter’.)

"It's the only country that does this. I actually won't accept the premise that AIPAC has the right to interfere in an American election on behalf of a foreign country," said Massie, who stated last year that AIPAC should register as foreign agents under the Foreign Agents Registration Act.

AIPAC spent over $300,000 on attack ads against Massie this recent election but he won reelection anyhow.

According to Walter Hixson, a retired professor of history and author, AIPAC's methods are direct and it "supports any candidate for Congress … who is pro-Israel and targets and punishes any candidate that is critical of Israel."

That modus operandi has been in plain sight in the countdown to the Nov. 5 elections in America with a recent report by The Intercept disclosing that AIPAC has spent money on more than 80 percent of all electoral races.

"There's nothing like AIPAC in American politics for any other country," Hixson said in an interview with Anadolu Agency. "It's not only the most powerful lobby representing a foreign country, it's one of the most powerful lobbies, period."

Hixson added that while numerous organizations are part of the pro-Israel lobby in America, AIPAC is distinct as it concentrates directly on Congress and has been "tremendously successful."

He stated that when it comes to funding, AIPAC primarily depends on a small number of super-rich billionaire donors, who under the American political system, are able to influence elections greatly.
