The University of Oregon offered college students hot apple cider, cocoa and the services of Quacktavious the Therapy Duck. Virginia Tech meanwhile offered therapy dogs and "guided stretching" for students. Over at the University of Washington, students were given access to a petting zoo, craft station and a gratitude wall.
A similar scenario was reported at Georgetown University, with students being offered a Lego station, coloring books and milk and cookies. Towson University in Maryland gave students a "space to reflect on the ways they’re taking care of themselves right now," while students at the University of Michigan had access to "Art Therapy and Post-Election Processing" sessions.
One English professor at Central Washington University gave her students a "mental health day," extending deadlines for all assignments. The professor also made herself available in the classroom for "anyone who just wants to talk, process, vent, cry, whatever you need."
"I've got a feeling that everyone might need some space today, so I am going to roll with that. You are more valuable than whatever I was planning on teaching," she wrote.
"Please take time to take care of yourselves. Make sure to eat. Drink water. Move your body. Also, the English department main office … has a therapy cat and guest kittens."
Conservative radio host: Babying Kamala Harris voters is not the way to go
But according to Seattle-based conservative radio host Jason Rantz, babying students who voted for outgoing Vice President Kamala Harris is not the way to go.
"As a conservative in Seattle, I know the disappointment of losing elections. But this level of distress is not normal and shouldn't be normalized," he wrote. (Related: College leftist goes crazy on pro-Trump students: 'Slash republican throats!')
"Kids are supposed to become adults in college – and they should be treated as such, not given therapy ducks or cats because they're upset that Trump won an election. But there's a problem: Adults are being infantilized too."
Rantz isn't alone in his sentiment. Other conservatives have also echoed his remarks and sentiments against coddling college students, arguing that these students should be capable of managing their own anxieties and disappointments during stressful times.
Robert Pondiscio, senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, D.C., commented on the Georgetown event where the university would provide Lego sets and cookies for students. "Folks, this isn't funny anymore," he wrote on X. "It's disturbing to treat adults like fragile children."
Rantz also pointed out the absurdity of adults having the emotional maturity of children when Trump was declared the winner.
"There are adults who took the day off because they couldn't cope with Trump in the White House. There were companies around the country offering memos to address the hurt feelings of their liberal voters. Some government agencies did the same," he wrote.
"Despite what left-wing talking heads claim, democracy isn't in peril. Maybe if we got a little less hyperbole from the Left, we wouldn’t have so many adults needing coloring books and cats to hang out with."
