Ohio Senate passes bill that would ban males from using female locker rooms and bathrooms in schools

The Ohio Senate has passed legislation that would prohibit gender-confused males from using locker rooms and bathrooms for females.

Senate Bill 104, titled the "Protect All Students Act," prohibits individuals from using restrooms, locker rooms or shower facilities designated for the opposite biological sex in public schools, grades K-12 and higher education institutions. This bill was sponsored by State Sen. Jerry Cirino (R-Kirtland).

"No school shall permit a member of the male biological sex to use a student restroom locker room, changing room or shower room that has been designated by the school for the exclusive use of the female biological sex," the bill states.

Additionally, the bill bans schools from assigning students of the opposite biological sex to the same rooms for overnight accommodations, such as during field trips.

The bill, which passed 24-7 on a party-line vote, now awaits the signature of Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine to become a law. If signed, it would establish rules prohibiting access to "multi-occupancy" facilities by individuals of the opposite biological sex, with exceptions for school employees, emergencies and family-use facilities designed for parents with children or individuals with special needs. SB 104 aims to return schools to "the way it was" and re-establish a "safer environment" for students

In an interview with WKYC Channel 3, Cirino explained that the bill seeks to return schools to "the way it was" and re-establish a "safer environment" for students.

"I don't want my granddaughters who are involved in sports having to be anxious about, worried by, and intimidated by men coming in or boys coming in (to their locker rooms and bathrooms)," Cirino told WKYC Channel 3.

He also reiterated this stance in another statement with ABC News, stating: "It protects our children and grandchildren in private spaces where they are most vulnerable. It is us using our legislative authority to ensure schools are, in fact, safe environments. After all, bathrooms, showers, changing rooms should all be safe places for our student."

In line with this, the conservative lobbying group the Center for Christian Virtue celebrated the passage of the legislation and urged DeWine to sign the law.

"Today is a huge victory for children and families in Ohio. Amended SB104 is common-sense legislation that will guarantee the only people entering young ladies' private spaces are female, not men claiming to be female," policy director David Mahan stated in a news release. "We call on Governor DeWine to sign SB104 into law to protect the privacy of women and young girls."
