The survey, conducted on Nov. 7, 10 and 11 among 1,276 likely voters, underscores broad bipartisan and demographic support for stronger measures to address illegal immigration. When asked about the importance of stopping illegal immigration, 76 percent of respondents said "very" (50 percent) or "somewhat" (26 percent) important. Meanwhile, only 22 percent believe the issue is not important. This sentiment spans racial and political lines, with 78 percent of white voters, 74 percent of black voters and 70 percent of Hispanic voters approving it is important to curb illegal immigration. Notably, 61 percent of Democrats, 90 percent of Republicans and 80 percent of Independents expressed similar views.
In turn, the poll reveals that overall, 64 percent of Americans approve of President-elect Donald Trump's plan to begin mass deportations immediately, while 33 percent disapprove. Approval is consistent across racial demographics, with 62 percent of white voters, 62 percent of black voters and 70 percent of Hispanics in favor.
Even among Democrats, a group generally less supportive of Trump's policies, 39 percent voiced approval, compared to 89 percent of Republicans and 65 percent of Independents. Disapproval rates are lower, with 36 percent of white voters, 32 percent of black voters and 28 percent of Hispanics opposing the plan.
The poll also gauged public confidence in Trump's ability to deliver on his campaign for mass deportations. A striking 72 percent of respondents believe Trump will likely follow through, while only 23 percent doubt his commitment.
32% of Americans believe illegal immigration should be Trump's primary focus when he assumes office
A separate Rasmussen Reports poll conducted a few days before election revealed that 32 percent of respondents believe addressing illegal immigration should be the primary focus of the next president.
The survey, conducted from Oct. 30 to Nov. 3, asked 1,800 likely voters to rank four pressing issues for the next administration: illegal immigration, rising prices, abortion rights and protecting democracy. Illegal immigration emerged as the leading concern at 32 percent, followed by rising prices at 27 percent, protecting democracy at 24 percent and abortion rights at 14 percent.
These results highlighted significant differences across political affiliations. Among Republican voters, nearly half (49 percent) viewed illegal immigration as the top priority, with rising prices trailing at 30 percent. Democrats, however, placed greater importance on protecting democracy (33 percent) and abortion rights (25 percent). Independent voters were split, with 31 percent prioritizing both illegal immigration and rising prices.
Age demographics further underscored differences in priorities. Voters under 40 were more likely to view rising prices as the most pressing issue, while older voters, particularly those aged 65 and above, leaned heavily toward addressing illegal immigration.
In turn, John Nolte wrote in his article for Breitbart News that these results have made it clear that "mass deportations are not a divisive issue. Americans, by a wide margin, are united behind the idea that it is time to deport those who broke into our country illegally."
