This "doomsday deal" was discussed during talks between President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Keir Starmer at the White House.
Some intelligence sources believe that Tehran's decades-long bid for the bomb could be in the final stages, with some experts saying that the desperate Kremlin could be working behind the scenes to transport them.
Declassified intelligence from the United States and the United Kingdom revealed that Russian President Vladimir Putin had received a shipment of Fath-360 ballistic missiles from Iran.
While on a visit to London, Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned that Russia is sharing technology that Iran is desperate for, adding that the exchange is "a two-way street – including on nuclear issues, as well as some space information."
The threat was discussed by Biden and Starmer. (Related: Trump says he'll end the Ukraine-Russia conflict before even taking office if he wins the election.)
Iran Air has been banned from flying over or landing in Britain in response to the missile shipment. Additionally, the U.K. has imposed sanctions on Russian shipping firms and five cargo ships for transporting the rockets. The Russian cargo ships being sanctioned are:
The White House summit talked about allowing Ukraine to use U.K.-made Storm Shadow missiles to strike military targets within Russia. However, no final decision has been announced as of writing.
Foreign Secretary David Lammy claimed Tehran is behind a "dangerous escalation," but the Iranians have denied any involvement.
Boris Johnson pressures U.S. and U.K. to permit use of British weapons to attack Russian targets
Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has spoken up about the plight of Ukrainian troops facing Putin's endless onslaught. On a visit to Ukraine, Johnson said both the U.S. and the U.K. must give Ukraine permission to use British weapons to retaliate against Russian targets.
In an interview, Johnson said it was "heartbreaking to visit wounded veterans in recovery centers – as I have in Kyiv this weekend – where Ukrainian heroes are being treated for injuries they suffered in the past few months." Johnson added that some of these casualties could have been avoided if the U.K. had given the green light for Storm Shadow earlier.
Additionally, Johnson said there is no possible reason for the delay and that the only one who fears escalation is Putin. He warned that waiting longer means losing the opportunity "to save lives and bring about a just conclusion to this war."
Keir also traveled to Italy where he is expected to discuss using the Storm Shadows inside Russia because the Italians have a stake in the lethal airborne weapons system.
According to British sources, the prime minister would be urging the French and Germans next to endorse his support for the major escalation in Western support for Ukraine. However, Biden is allegedly concerned that the missiles could fuel an escalation of the conflict.
