Referencing a speaker at one of Donald Trump's recent rallies who supposedly referred to Puerto Rico as a "floating island of garbage," Biden told the Latino crowd that "the only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters" before quickly realizing that he said the quiet part out loud.
"The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters – his, his demonization of Latinos is unconscionable and it's unamerican," Biden quickly sidetracked to try to make everyone forget what he just said about Trump supporters.
"It's totally contrary to everything we've done, everything we've been," Biden continued, rambling unintelligibly about apparent nonsense.
The White House, desperate for things like this to not happen just days before Election Day, immediately launched into cleanup mode. It issued a statement that added an apostrophe to the word 'supporter's' to imply that Biden was actually only referring to one person: a comedian by the name of Tony Hinchcliffe who made the joke about Puerto Rico being an "island of garbage."

Hillary called them deplorables; Biden calls them garbage
Biden's use of the word "garbage" to refer to Trump supporters is reminiscent of the time that two-time failed presidential wannabe Hillary Clinton referred to Trump supporters as a "basket of deplorables" in a now-infamous speech that helped cost her the election a second time.
The gaffe was so severe that Democrats had Biden himself personally issue a statement claiming that he said something different and was not referring to Trump supporters as a whole.
"Earlier today, I referred to the hateful rhetoric about Puerto Rico spewed by Trump's supporter at his Madison Square Garden rally as garbage – which is the only word I can think of to describe it," Biden said.
"His demonization of Latinos is unconscionable. That's all I meant to say. The comments at that rally don't reflect who we are as a nation."
Trump wasted no time decrying what Biden said as "worse" than what Clinton said eight years ago in much the same spirit.
"Wow, that's what [Biden] says ... garbage," Trump said to a crowd of supporters in Allentown, Penn. "I think it's worse [than deplorables]."
"Please forgive him for he knoweth not what he say," Trump continued, pretending to pray to God on behalf of Biden, who Trump believes is cognitively impaired. "Honestly he doesn't. And I'm convinced that he likes me more than he likes Kamala."
Trump's running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio, issued a statement of his own condemning both Biden and Kamala over the incident.
"Kamala Harris and Joe Biden ought to be ashamed of themselves," Vance wrote. "A mother mourning her son who died of a fentanyl overdose is not garbage. A truck driver who can't afford rising diesel prices is not garbage. A father who wants to afford groceries is not garbage."
The Trump campaign also made a social media post making fun of Biden. It included a video of Biden calling Trump supporters "garbage" along with the following caption:
"When Joe wakes up and wonders why his intern tweeted this – we will leave this here as a reminder."
"As the leader of the Democratic Party, President Biden had ONE job tonight: to STFU and let the current nominee have the news cycle," further complained liberal Leah McElrath on social media. "However you interpret his words, he wasn't able to do that."
