In a recent social media post, FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino revealed that the bureau is actively investigating matters related to the origin of COVID-19, including efforts to conceal its true source. 

Bongino confirmed that multiple FBI field offices are involved in examining the circumstances surrounding the virus’s emergence, emphasizing the public’s right to transparency and accountability.

Confirming that Dr. Anthony Fauci is “under scrutiny”, the announcement marks one of the most direct acknowledgments by a senior FBI official regarding the agency’s ongoing interest in the pandemic’s origins. 

The scope and details of the investigation remain undisclosed, and the FBI has not issued an official press release on the matter.

This development comes amid renewed discussions about the possibility of a lab-related origin of COVID-19. 

In 2023, then-FBI Director Christopher Wray indicated that the agency assessed with moderate confidence that the virus likely resulted from a laboratory incident in Wuhan, China. Chinese authorities have consistently denied such claims, labeling them as politically motivated and lacking evidence.

The investigation also coincides with the emergence of a new COVID-19 variant, provisionally identified as NB.1.8.1, detected in several U.S. states. Federal health officials have not yet classified it as a variant of concern.

Bongino, appointed as FBI Deputy Director earlier this year by Director Kash Patel, has been known for his direct communication style and has utilized social media platforms to provide updates on bureau activities. His recent statements underscore the FBI’s commitment to investigating the origins of COVID-19 and ensuring that the American public receives accurate information.
