Iran Attacks US Military Base In Qatar

Iran attacks air base

Iran says it has carried out a ‘mighty and successful’ attack on a US air base in Qatar.

The attacks come after the US dropped “bunker buster bombs” on three of Irans key nuclear sites over the weekend.

Anticipating an attack, the US moved a large number of its planes before the attack and the Pentagon claimed there were no casualties and that there was no impact on the base.

The New York Times reported that Iran gave advance notice of plans to fire missiles at US bases in the region, having coordinated the strikes with Qatari officials beforehand.

According to the Telegraph: Iran fired ballistic missiles at America’s largest and most fortified military base in the Middle East.

Iranian missiles were fired at the Al Udeid military base in Qatar in response to US strikes against Tehran’s nuclear facilities yesterday morning.

Footage showed explosions in the sky above Doha as US and Qatari defence systems worked to intercept the missiles. Air defence systems were also activated at the Ain al-Asad airbase in Iraq, though it was not targeted by Iran.

Tehran, which dubbed the operation “Promise of Victory”, confirmed it had targeted Al Udeid with “devastating and powerful missile attacks” and vowed to “collapse” American military bases in the region.

However, three Iranian officials told the New York Times that Tehran had notified Qatar ahead of the strikes in a bid to minimise casualties. Donald Trump was also aware of the attack plans in advance, Western officials said.

The Pentagon confirmed there were no casualties in the attack and that there was no impact on the base, which is home to US Centcom’s HQ and British military personnel on rotation.
