Colbert and co. couldn’t help themselves.
They heard former Trump White House staffer Cassidy Hutchinson describe a surreal scene tied to Jan. 6, 2021 and they couldn’t wait to spread it on their respective platforms.
Did it matter that it appeared fictitious from the jump? Not to these brave, “speaking truth to power” satirists. Then again, this same troupe promoted the Russian collusion hoax for years without offering up a single mea culpa.
In their defense, the media similarly refused to apologize to President Donald Trump or the American public.
The Fake News in question? that President Trump violently attempted to grab the wheel from a Secret Service agent to steer the car to the U.S. Capitol that day.
Jimmy Fallon, who was bullied into being a late-night progressive after tousling Trump’s hair in 2016, led the parade.
“Always good when you need another Secret Service to protect the Secret Service, you know what I’m saying? Immediately the agents were like, ‘Who the hell let him out of his car seat?’”
Stephen Colbert of “The Late Show” fame piled on.
“He went for the throat. When you get into the Secret Service, you know you have to take one for the president, but you never expect to take one from the president.”
The low-rated Trevor Noah added his own take via “The Daily Show.”
“He’s hitting the one person who can’t hit back. Yeah, they can punch back, but then they’ve got to jump in front of their own punch. Not to victim blame, but this is on the Secret Service, all right? You had four years to Trump-proof that vehicle — you knew who you were dealing with. There should have been a toy steering wheel in the passenger seat the whole time. Just let him think he’s driving and go back to the West Wing anyway.”
Kimmel later lobbed softballs at Hutchinson during his one-on-one interview with her.
Reality quickly squashed Hutchinson’s story.
The source of her gossip flatly denied it happened the way she described. Yet the various hosts couldn’t find time to correct the record.
Then or now.
A new Inspector’s General report on Jan. 6 confirmed that the driving attack never happened.
Hutchinson’s “source” for the gossip was, she claimed, former Secret Service agent-turned-Trump White House Deputy Chief of Staff Tony Ornato. Ornato says he never witnessed the event, much less told her.
Furthermore, the IG’s redacted report says the Secret Service took more than four months before he made himself available where he reiterated that this Trump episode never happened. The other Secret Service agents who were in the car said Trump never lunged at the driver, though one reported that he was angry that he couldn’t go.
Why would they apologize to Orange Man Bad … or us? They like late-night lies that denigrate their political foes. It’s clown nose on … and off.
“Don’t blame me! I’m just a comedian … wacka-wacka-wacka!”
What makes the steering wheel story even worse in light of recent events? Secret Service agents appear less than enthralled with Trump.
Don’t expect to hear any references to Hutchinson’s testimony tonight or later this week on any late-night show.
Late-night propagandists work hand-in-hand with our corrupt media. Journalists spin half-truths or outright Fake News stories – Breitbart News’ John Nolte has an ever-expanding list of the biggest lies – and these comedians share them with unsuspecting viewers.
Sans consequences. Always.
