The Biden administration is gutting Trump’s Title IX rules, and Republicans on X are not going to let it fly under the radar.

Fox News reports that the Biden administration has unveiled new rules aimed at safeguarding LGBTQ+ students and changing the ways in which sexual harassment and assault claims are adjudicated on campus.

Betsy DeVos, who served as Education Secretary under the Trump administration, expressed her views on the administration’s rules, which effectively undo much of the work she pursued during her tenure.

“Today the @JoeBiden administration finalized its radical re-write of #TitleIX,” she wrote. “I never thought I’d see the day where Title IX would be used to harm women, but sadly, that day has come.”

“This regulation is an assault on women and girls. It makes it a federal requirement that boys be allowed in girls bathrooms in elementary schools,” she said in another part of her X thread.

“Importantly, this regulation also seeks to u-turn to the bad old days where sexual misconduct was sent to campus kangaroo courts, not resolved in a way that actually sought justice,” she added in a different post.

Per Fox News, the Education Department issued a revised Title IX regulation, as part of which the new provisions were introduced, fulfilling a Biden campaign promise.

Notably absent from the updated rule, however, is a provision prohibiting schools from implementing complete bans on trans athletes participating in competitions against biological females.

Many anticipated that the Biden administration would introduce such a policy, but instead, it has opted to postpone the provision.

This delay, the outlet reports, is widely interpreted as a political tactic, especially during an election year when Republicans have mobilized support for bans on trans athletes participating in girls’ sports.

Inez Stepman detailed some of Biden’s changes in a thread on X, writing, “His Title IX changes:

“Redefine sex in civil rights law to include gender identity, exposing girls and women across the country to men in their bathrooms, sports teams, and locker rooms.

“Reinstate Obama-era kangaroo court rules for men accused of sexual assault on college campuses that completely flout due process and make mere accusation the standard that can ruin young men’s lives

“Encourage universities to unconstitutionally curtail protected speech in the name of subjective offense and ‘harassment’; empower schools to enforce rules like punishing children for using biologically incorrect pronouns

“Curtail parents’ rights to know what schools are doing with their own children with regard to ‘gender transition’

“Each one of these changes itself would be a five-alarm fire, and in many cases represent unconstitutional curtailment of established rights, rights federal courts have consistently upheld,” Stepman concluded. “These changes will be challenged in court.”

Other X users have called out various mainstream media outlets like POLITICO over its reporting of the news, as they have described the changes made by the Biden administration as “defenses for transgender students.”

The administration is promoting the rule as providing students with the “most comprehensive coverage” they have ever received in the nearly half-century history of Title IX, POLITICO further explained.

Users also snubbed different legacy media outlets for using choice language in order to garner a more favorable and supportive response to the rule changes from the public.

Some have blasted the changes because of how they give schools the power to punish kids for not using “preferred pronouns.”
