Conservative influencer and former congressional intern to GOP representatives Isabella Maria Deluca was arrested and charged on Friday in relation to the events of January 6, 2021 at the Capitol building.
Deluca has been charged with four misdemeanor counts that have levied more than 1,000 defendants associated with J6, plus an additional misdemeanor count of theft of government property, WUSA 9 reports.
Deluca's arrest occurred in Irvine, California, with her case falling under the purview of Magistrate Judge Robin Meriweather for an initial hearing in DC.
Court documents reveal that the FBI received an online tip implicating Deluca as a potential suspect in the Capitol riot. The tipster alleged that Deluca had removed social media posts suggesting her presence within the Capitol on January 6.
The FBI alleges Deluca's involvement in the riot, citing footage showing her removing a table from an office within the Capitol and facilitating its use by rioters outside. The table was subsequently employed in an assault against law enforcement officers guarding the Lower West Terrace Tunnel, per the FBI.
Deluca came under FBI scrutiny shortly after the Capitol attack, with agents interviewing her on January 21, 2021, the day following Joe Biden's inauguration. The influencer refuted allegations of entering the Capitol during her interview with federal agents, the affidavit shows.
The FBI documented DeLuca's social media engagement on the day of the events. One post stated, “Fight back or let politicians steal an election? Fight back!”
Additionally, a message sent to DeLuca on Instagram conveyed, “I’m walking to the Capitol!” to which DeLuca replied, “Okay! I’m going to head there now.”
Deluca also commented on Instagram, revealing that she had been “maced pretty bad about three times” and had resorted to “using milk to alleviate the effects of the mace/tear gas in my eyes.”
The influencer released a statement on January 14, 2021 stating in part, “I was there on Jan. 6. I have mixed feelings. People went to the Capitol building because that’s Our House and that’s where we go to take our grievances. People feel, as do I that an election was stolen from them and it was allowed.”
The conservative influencer has an online following exceeding 333,000 on X, and her professional background includes a stint as a congressional intern and current employment as a media associate for The Gold Institute for International Strategy. Her profile on the institute’s website highlights her previous role as an ambassador for Turning Point USA, the AP reports.
Deluca has notably interned for former U.S. Rep. Lee Zeldin of New York and Rep. Paul Gosar of Arizona, both prominent Republicans who have voiced support for former President Donald Trump.
The news has sparked fury on X, with users calling the arrest “completely insane,” while others blasted Biden's DOJ for continuing its pursuit to hunt down J6 protestors.
“Isabella Deluca being charged and arrested for touching a table is by far the most ridiculous and absurd thing I’ve ever heard,” wrote one user on X.
“I don’t understand how any conservative doesn’t have a second citizenship of residence at this point,” said another. “We are no longer safe in this country. They’re coming for ALL of us.”
Despite the mounting allegations, Deluca remained active on social media, thanking supporters for their messages and expressing gratitude for their backing amidst her legal predicament.
Deluca joins a cohort of over 1,300 individuals facing charges related to the Capitol riot, with the legal fallout resulting in over 800 sentences handed down, ranging from brief imprisonments to lengthy terms of up to 22 years.
