Country music start Morgan Wallen, known for hit songs like “Wasted on You,” was arrested and charged with three felony counts following an incident at a rooftop bar in Nashville, Tennessee.
Wallen was taken into custody after he allegedly threw a chair from the sixth floor of Chiefs Bar in downtown Nashville just after 10:45 p.m. Sunday night, per local media reports.
Officers from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department reported that the chair landed three feet away from them.
Police officers arrested Wallen and booked him just after 12:30 a.m. Monday.
Wallen faced charges of three counts of reckless endangerment and one count of disorderly conduct.
“At 10:53 pm Sunday evening Morgan Wallen was arrested in downtown Nashville for reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct,” the singer’s attorney Worrick Robinson told The New York Post in a statement. “He is cooperating fully with authorities.”
Wallen's bond stood at $15,250. He emerged from Davidson County jail around 3:30 a.m.
The hitmaker is slated to perform at Nissan Stadium in Nashville from May 2 to May 4 as part of his 'One Night at a Time' Tour. However, his next court appearance is scheduled for May 3.
If convicted of the felony charges, Wallen could potentially face up to 15 years in jail, with a minimum sentence of one year.
The Daily Mail reports MNPD released Wallen's mugshot on Monday morning, revealing the country music star with a grin on his face.
The reason for Wallen's action in throwing the chair at law enforcement officers, as well as the events leading up to the incident, remain unclear. Onlookers observed the country star laughing after the ordeal.
Fellow country artist Eric Church owns Chiefs Bar, which celebrated its grand opening over the weekend.
An Instagram account posted an image showing Wallen being detained by MNPD.
In the photo, the 30-year-old seems to be shouting at a police officer from inside a police cruiser.
In the comments section, one Instagram user who claims to work at the bar stated, “I work there and the chair damn near took out 2 cops. He threw it from the 6th floor.”
Wallen's recent arrest is not his first encounter with the law. He was detained in May 2020 for disorderly conduct at Kid Rock's Honky Tonk bar in downtown Nashville. Additionally, the country music star was arrested at the same bar for public intoxication.
Outside Kid Rock's Big Honky Tonk and Steakhouse, Wallen was placed into custody after allegedly kicking several glass items, as detailed in a Metro Nashville Police Department affidavit. An officer witnessed security guards removing Wallen from the bar due to his disorderly behavior inside.
Despite being given multiple opportunities by police to leave with his friends, Wallen refused, per the affidavit.
Wallen also faced a DUI charge in 2016, although the case was ultimately dismissed.
Country music legend John Rich weighed in on Wallen's recent felony charges on X, writing, “Reading about Morgan Wallen this morning, and I can't help but recall all the destructive, crazy things I did early on in my career. The combo of intense pressure, expectations and over the top success is a dangerous cocktail.”
“Thank God I had great mentors who helped guide me out of that mindset, and I hope Morgan has some people around him who care about him enough to help him find a new approach to life,” he continued. “It takes a lifetime to build what he's built, and one second to destroy it all. I'm rooting for him to turn it around.”
