Candace Owens, who has recently made headlines over her departure from The Daily Wire, says a “behind the scenes” journalist is attempting to put together a story that correlates her to controversial commentators Nick Fuentes and Milo Yiannopoulus.
She asked for help from her followers in a post on X on Thursday.
“Internet I need your help!” Owens wrote. “Last week, upon my leave from the Daily Wire, a journalist informed me that someone behind the scenes was attempting to shop a story trying to correlate me to Nick Fuentes.”
“This week, that same journalist informed me that the same person is now trying to shop a story to correlate me to Milo Yiannopoulus,” she continued. “Who do you guys think could be the mysterious person trying to get journalists to connect me to those two very specific individuals (neither of whom I know) ?”
Owens has been tied to Fuentes, an outspoken critic of the Jewish people and culture, before. Yiannopoulus, however, another controversial figure, has not been allegedly associated with Owens much in the past, signaling a far stretch connection by the apparent journalist if true.
Last month, Resist The Mainstream reported on an Anti-Defamation League (ADL) “hit piece” that accused Owens of supporting bigotry against the Jews.
The article cites several instances of Fuentes expressing enthusiasm for Owens’ public comments.
“White supremacist & Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes is praising Candace Owens' vitriolic antisemitism,” the ADL said in a post on X late March. “It's hardly surprising, but it does set off alarm bells: When bigoted people come together to push an antisemitic agenda, it adds fuel to the fire of hate.”
Owens notably departed from The Daily Wire one day after the article was published, prompting X users to speculate about the suspicious timing of events.
Daily Wire CEO Jeremy Boreing was pressed about this during an X space, where speaker Andrew Meyer demanded answers about what Owen’s did “that she deserved to be fired.”
Boreing did not respond to the comment directly, but he did confirm that Media Matters and the ADL did not play a part in the decision to let Owens leave.
“Ben Shapiro is as critical of the ADL as anyone out there,” Boreing continued. He then pointed out that he himself is also a vocal critic of the ADL, and that he doesn’t know anyone at The Daily Wire who supports the outlet.
Following Owens’ post on Thursday about a “behind the scenes” journalist, X users weighed in to share their theories.
Some users pointed to Ben Shapiro as being the “mysterious person” trying to tip off the journalist. Some accused The Daily Wire, National Review, or Jerusalem Post of being the culprit.
Others told Owens to interview Fuentes because it would “break the internet.”
“The best response would be to interview them both,” said one user. “This may seem like I’m being disingenuous, but you are now free to associate with whoever you please, in any capacity. It would be the most epic counter punch ever thrown.”
