Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced this week that his state is taking action against President Joe Biden’s “illegal” and “secret” flight program, which clandestinely transports illegal immigrants to various states across the U.S.
“First of all, it’s an illegal program. They’re bringing people in who don’t have a right to be in this country from foreign countries,” DeSantis said during a press conference on Wednesday.
“And we saw this instance, recently, someone that Biden flew into America ended up in Massachusetts, now is under charges for sexual assault against a developmentally disabled 14-year-old girl,” he added.
“Now, that is something that would have been prevented had they just followed the law. We’ve been after them on this parole for a long time, we’ve actually won in court. And it’s our hope that we’re going to be able to get that shut down,” he continued.
DeSantis slammed Biden's “secret” federal program where the president refuses to disclose the tens of thousands of illegal immigrants being flown to states across the nation.
The governor then accused Biden of sending far more illegal aliens to Miami than any other city in the U.S.
“I can tell you, we’re not a sanctuary state,” DeSantis continued. “We don’t have sanctuary cities, and we’ve took action to where you’re not getting a driver’s license, you’re not getting ID cards. So you are better off in New York or Illinois or California.”
“So that may be what you’re seeing. But it’s secret, in the sense, yes, we know the program’s going on, we’re suing over it. We know it’s illegal and not constitutional, but they are not coordinating with state government at all,” he concluded.
DeSantis’ accusation of Biden sending migrants to Miami comes after a bombshell analysis by the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) that highlights Florida has emerged as the primary destination for these illegal immigrant flights.
Approximately 326,000 migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela have arrived in Florida, per the CIS analysis, underlining the state's significant role in the Biden administration's immigration strategy.
The program, described as part of the Biden administration's expanded parole processes, allows for the acceptance of “up to 30,000 individuals per month” from the aforementioned countries.
Despite the scale of the program, details regarding which airports are receiving these migrants have been shrouded in secrecy. Efforts to obtain this information through Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests have been met with resistance from Biden's immigration agencies, citing concerns over safety and national security vulnerabilities.
Customs and Border Protection (CBP) disclosed last month that the flights have landed in at least 43 different American airports throughout 2023.
Texas, a state already grappling with a surge in illegal immigration at its southern border, finds itself as the second-highest recipient of illegals through Biden's flight program. Houston alone received nearly 22,000 illegals since January last year.
California follows closely behind, with approximately 13,000 immigrants flown into airports in Los Angeles or San Francisco. Other cities such as Boston, Atlanta, Baltimore, and Chicago have also received a portion of the immigrants.
Notably, the New York Field Office, encompassing JFK and LaGuardia airports, recorded over 33,000 encounters with inadmissible aliens from the specified nationalities, further illustrating the extent of the program's reach.
