Former MSNBC host Keith Olbermann has ignited controversy with his recent remarks insinuating the possibility of Donald Trump's assassination.

Reacting to a video shared by a Biden-Harris campaign account featuring Trump's comparison of himself to Abraham Lincoln at an Ohio rally, Olbermann remarked, “There's always the hope,” in response to a mention of Lincoln's assassination.

The post has since been deleted, however, Olbermann is predictably facing backlash across social media for his comments.

“There’s no excuse for Keith Olbermann wishing for Trump’s assassination. None at all,” remarked one individual, per The Daily Mail.

“And he dares to suggest that Trump and his supporters are the threat to democracy…his projection has become transparent and a threat,” added a different user.

“Olbermann wishing assassination on Trump is unacceptable and pretty sure it’s criminal,” said a user.

“This account should be permanently suspended,” wrote another.

“Wish of harm is against terms of service of X,” added one.

Calls for punitive action have emerged, with one account advocating for the permanent suspension of Olbermann's account for seemingly endorsing violence against Trump.

Trump's recent remarks during an Ohio campaign speech, where he warned of a potential “bloodbath” in the American auto industry if Biden were to be re-elected in November, have drawn criticism from various media outlets and political figures.

Resist The Mainstream reported yesterday MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough also stirred controversy over a post about Trump's “bloodbath” comment. Scarborough eventually deleted the post after a reply from Elon Musk.

Olbermann, recognized for his tenure in sports broadcasting and progressive political commentary, presently hosts a podcast and frequently shares his viewpoints on social media platforms.

Known for his provocative statements and far-left stance, Olbermann has also advocated for the dissolution of the Supreme Court in recent times.

He also referred to President George W. Bush as a “fascist” and made violent metaphors regarding Hillary Clinton during the 2008 presidential campaign.
