Kaylee Gain has begun recovering after a severe altercation outside her high school led to a coma due to her head being forcefully hit into the pavement.

She began speech therapy and has taken short walks with hospital staff's help, as she is still relearning to walk independently. This development has been a welcome relief to her loved ones, considering her family feared she might not recover from her injuries, which included brain bleeding and a skull fracture.

“Kaylee also recently began speech therapy, and has gone on a few short walks with the assistance of hospital staff as she is still unable to ambulate on her own,” attorney Bryan Kaemmerer, a spokesperson for Gains, said in a statement reported by The New York Post.

Despite these positive signs, Gain has no memory of the attack. The distressing incident on March 8, captured on video, shows an unidentified girl assaulting Gain, which led to the teenager's serious condition. The aggressor, a 15-year-old, was apprehended and faces assault charges.

Furthermore, the Gain family has expressed outrage over social media posts by the accused, bragging about the assault with insensitive remarks about joining MMA or WWE, which have since been removed.

“Given that Kaylee began visibly convulsing within seconds after the attack, the serious nature of Kaylee’s injuries should have been immediately apparent to the accused,” Kaemmerer added.

The legal debate intensifies as Gain's family, supported by Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey, pushes for the accused to be tried as an adult, citing the calculated nature of the assault. Conversely, the aggressor's family claims she was responding to being harassed and bullied, suggesting awareness of the potential consequences of her actions. The attack's full context and motive remain under investigation, with the prior day's suspension of Gain and another student for a separate, non-injurious altercation hinting at a possible retaliatory motive.

This is a breaking story and will be updated.
