Tragedy struck on Easter Sunday in Nashville's Germantown district as one person lost their life and five others sustained injuries in a shooting incident at a local coffee shop.

The event unfolded around 3:03 pm local time at Roasted Salemtown, a popular brunch spot on Garfield Street, as reported by police.

Eyewitness accounts shed light on the chaos that ensued, with one individual recounting on social media, “I tried to take my baby out to eat at Roasted and a man got killed in front of us!” The shock and horror reverberated across the community, with expressions of dismay directed at the city.

Allegedly stemming from a confrontation, the altercation escalated into gunfire, leaving at least one employee wounded. The timing of the incident, occurring a day after the somber anniversary of a previous school shooting in Nashville, added to the sense of grief and unease.

Law enforcement officials disclosed that the suspect fled the scene in a Mercedes GLS 450. Despite this, authorities assured the public that there was no ongoing threat to safety.

Social media became a platform for disseminating information, with photos of the suspect and details of the incident shared by police. Detectives embarked on unraveling the motive behind the shooter's actions, particularly during a busy brunch hour at Roasted on Garfield St.

Metro Police spokesperson Don Aaron provided insights into the aftermath, revealing that a total of eight individuals were affected by the incident, including one fatality, five gunshot victims, and one person experiencing a panic attack, identified as a pregnant woman.

Aaron corroborated witness testimonies, indicating that the gunman arrived shortly before the violence erupted. An altercation ensued, culminating in the discharge of multiple rounds.

Late on Sunday, Fox Nashville revealed the alleged suspect as 46-year-old convicted felon Anton Rucker.

His past charges, per the outlet, include aggravated assault and drug and gun charges. Rucker left the scene in a Mercedes GLS 450.

Mayor Freddie O'Connell voiced his condolences and condemnation of the violence, acknowledging the disruption wrought upon the neighborhood and extending support to the affected individuals.
