Ronna McDaniel, having resigned from her role as chairwoman of the Republican National Committee (RNC), has transitioned to a new position as an on-air contributor for NBC News, as reported by The New York Times.

This change occurred three weeks following her resignation after the South Carolina primary. In her new capacity, McDaniel is slated for her first appearance on the upcoming Sunday edition of Meet the Press and will also provide commentary on MSNBC.

Carrie Budoff Brown, managing NBC News's political coverage, articulated that McDaniel's contributions would offer “an insider’s perspective on national politics and the future of the Republican Party.” This move has generated significant commentary, underlining the importance of McDaniel's insights at a pivotal time for both the Republican Party and national politics at large.

“It couldn’t be a more important moment to have a voice like Ronna’s on the team,” Brown indicated in a memo.

McDaniel's tenure as the RNC chairwoman, which began in 2016, was marked by her re-election to the position in January 2023, amidst challenges from attorney Harmeet Dhillon and entrepreneur Mike Lindell. Her leadership came under scrutiny, especially after the Republican Party's losses in the 2022 midterm elections, with concerns rising within the RNC about its financial situation leading up to the 2024 elections. Financial records highlighted that the RNC had its lowest cash on hand since 2015, amounting to only $9.1 million.

Criticism of McDaniel's leadership extended to the 2024 Republican presidential candidates, notably from former candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, who vocally demanded her resignation during the debates. Ramaswamy's call for McDaniel's replacement was accentuated through the launch of a petition on the website FireRonna.com.
