NBC News has made a swift reversal in its decision to bring on ex-RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel as a contributor, following a wave of internal dissent within the network's ranks.

The move comes in the wake of vocal opposition, notably from prominent figures such as Chuck Todd, who raised concerns about the potential impact on the network's credibility.

The outcry against McDaniel's hiring was palpable from the outset, with Todd leading the charge over the weekend, asserting that the network's integrity was on the line.

Former President Donald Trump did not mince words on Truth Social regarding the debacle.

“Wow! Ronna McDaniel got fired by Fake News NBC. She only lasted two days, and this after McDaniel went out of her way to say what they wanted to hear. It leaves her in a very strange place, it’s called NEVER NEVERLAND, and it’s not a place you want to be,” he said.

“What boss or executive would allow a man or woman, in this case Sleepy Eyes Chuck Todd, who was fired for dismal performance coupled with horrendous television ratings, to publicly SCOLD them as to their weakness & stupidity in hiring Ronna McDaniel,” Trump said in another post.

“If I knew Ronna was going to troubled MSNBC, I would have advised her to change her name back to Romney, she would have had a better chance!” he added later in the post.

Notably, Todd pointed out what he saw as a double standard, citing instances where political affiliations seemed to play a role in hiring decisions at other networks.

NBCUniversal News Group Chairman, Cesar Conde, addressed the turmoil in a memo obtained by Fox News Digital, acknowledging the challenges faced in recent days. “After listening to the legitimate concerns of many of you, I have decided that Ronna McDaniel will not be an NBC News contributor,” Conde stated, underscoring the importance of maintaining a cohesive and aligned newsroom.

While NBC did not immediately respond to requests for comment, Todd reiterated his stance, emphasizing that the issue transcends ideological lines. He argued that the crux of the matter revolves around journalistic integrity and the responsibility of honest journalists to uphold truthfulness in their reporting.

Newsbusters captured Psaki's monologue regarding McDaniel's hiring. “You may have seen some news over the last few days about the hiring of former RNC chair Ronna McDaniel as an NBC News contributor. And some, mainly in the right-wing ecosystem, have made the comparison to others who have come from government or politics into the media- including me. And that is a comparison I felt like I had to address.

Even voices typically aligned with progressive views, such as Chris Cuomo, expressed discomfort with what they saw as partisan maneuvering. Despite McDaniel's contentious tenure as the chair of the Republican National Committee, some viewed the network's response as disproportionately punitive, veering into hyperbole by labeling her a “domestic terrorist.”

During her Monday broadcast, MSNBC host Rachel Maddow voiced her opposition to the hiring as well.

“[I] want to associate myself with all my colleagues both at MSNBC and at NBC News who have voiced loud and principled objections to our company putting on the payroll someone who hasn’t just attacked us as journalists, but someone who is part of an ongoing project to get rid of our system of government, someone who still is trying to convince Americans that this election stuff, it doesn’t really work, that this last election, it wasn’t a real result, that American elections are fraudulent,” she said.

As the dust settles on this episode, questions linger about the true motivations behind NBC News' actions. While the network may seek to frame the decision as a stand for integrity, skeptics argue that the underlying dynamics reveal a deeper struggle between partisan interests and journalistic principles.
