The new bill Senate Bill 5462 requires that educators develop a curriculum that includes the history and contributions of people from the LGBTQ movement. 

The curriculum must also include the history of persons from different racial, ethnic, and religious backgrounds, per KPTV.

The Post Millennial reports the bill was passed by the Democrat-controlled legislature. It was originally introduced in 2023 to expand “inclusive learning standards and instructional materials.”

The bill’s ultimate goal is to eliminate bias in regards to the topic of LGBTQ history.

The Washington State School Directors’ Association must review and update a model policy by June 1, 2025, FOX 13 reports. The Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) must then produce and distribute a schedule for the overhaul of state learning standards no later than September 1, 2025.

It will be mandatory for all public schools to integrate the new curriculum and adhere to the updated learning standards by October 1, 2025.

A key supporter of the legislation was State Senator Marko Liias, a Democrat known for his far-left views. Liias had previously sponsored Senate Bill 5599, which has been dubbed “state-sanctioned kidnapping.”

Some critics argue Senate Bill 5599 promotes minors running away from home to undergo sex changes and abortions without parental consent, all funded by taxpayers.

“Children between the ages of 13 and 18 can already access these same health and mental health services under Washington law, without their parents’ permission,” Senate Republican Leader John Braun said in a statement when the bill first passed. 

“The only thing SB 5599 would do is cause harm by driving a wedge between vulnerable kids and their parents, at a time when a teen lacks the perception and judgment to make critical life-altering decisions,” he added.
