6m-deep sinkhole opens up on road in Pos Brooke, Malaysia

mmmmm
Repairs are being carried out on the 6m-deep sinkhole that emerged along Jalan Lojing-Gua Musang, near Kampung Jek Jok, Pos Brooke.

Gua Musang OCPD Supt Sik Choon Foo confirmed the ongoing repairs but stated that the route has not been fully opened to vehicular use.

Thus far, only one lane has been made accessible to road users from Lojing and Cameron Highlands.

Speaking to Bernama, he said that several warning signs regarding the road repairs have been put up.

Meanwhile, Kampung Jek Jok village head Jubir Sekmo believes the sinkhole incident resulted from continuous rain over the past three days, leading to a large amount of water flowing underground.

According to him, the incident was discovered at around 8am on Saturday (Nov 23), after which local residents took measures to place barriers on the road to alert users to the situation along Jalan Lojing-Gua Musang.

"This is the first time this has happened, and we are concerned that more areas are at risk of sinkholes that could cause injuries or loss of life," he said.

"Additionally, the sinkhole is also suspected to be a result of land clearing and deforestation for the purpose of opening vegetable farms, and we think this sinkhole occurred due to heavy rainwater flowing underground," he told reporters in Kampung Jek Jok.
