The early peak of the solar cycle arrived with intense geomagnetic storms that produced amazing auroras around the world, reaching farther south than usual and reaching the highest daily sunspot numbers in more than 20 years.
This intense solar activity has been accompanied by extreme weather on Earth this month, particularly severe storms and record flooding around the world.

Millions of people across South Asia struggled this month with flooded homes, power outages, and destroyed infrastructure due to heavy monsoon rains:

Bangladesh: Massive flooding leaves 27 dead and 5.6 million affected.

Gujarat, India: Massive flooding kills 28 and displaces 24,000.

Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar: Weeks of rain in a few days cause massive flooding, damaging crops.

Northern India: Heavy rain triggered deadly landslides - 8 inches of rain in 24 hours.

Parts of North Africa and the Middle East experienced record-breaking floods, causing much of the desert to turn green. Meanwhile, North America's highest elevations received an abnormal share of snow... in August.
