The Valencia region was hit hard, with rainfall of up to 1.3 feet (40 cm) in some areas. The unexpected downpour caused widespread devastation and took more than 200 lives.
Paiporta was one of the worst-hit towns. Many residents were trapped in their homes or vehicles, and emergency services were overwhelmed. It took days for rescue operations to reach all affected areas.
Despite the disaster, stories of solidarity and heroism emerged. The lack of timely intervention by the government triggered a wave of cooperation across Valencia and neighboring counties, providing basic needs such as food and water, and helping with the cleaning efforts. Similar to what happened in North Carolina.
Also, Daniel Burguet, the co-director of a local school, became known as the 'Hero of Paiporta' after rescuing several children trapped during the floods.
The way things are going in the Earth Changes arena, it's very likely that we'll be hearing more about these events of collaboration during and after the crisis.
The Atlantic basin experienced an unusually active hurricane season, with five named storms forming during October. This was well above the average of 3.2 named storms for the month.
Hurricane Milton stood out as the most intense. The storm rapidly intensified from a weak tropical storm to a Category 5 hurricane with winds of 175 mph in less than 24 hours. The record-breaking rainfall resulted in extensive property damage and, at least 14 deaths.
Milton also produced at least 11 confirmed tornadoes in Florida, causing significant damage, particularly in the Treasure Coast region, where an EF3 tornado triggered widespread destruction. The tornado outbreak was one of the most intense associated with a hurricane in Florida's history.
Heavy monsoon rains and upstream torrents in Bangladesh and nearby countries caused widespread devastation. The floods affected more than 18 million people and caused at least 75 deaths. One million tons of rice were destroyed, leading to a significant increase in food prices. The economic impact is estimated at around $380 million, with agricultural losses including more than 200,000 tons of vegetable food.
