Born in the People’s Republic of China, Sun immigrated to the U.S. at a young age and was naturalized as a U.S. citizen. Her early political career began with campaign work for Grace Meng, a U.S. Congresswoman, and she later held influential roles in the New York state government with Democrats, including as Deputy Chief Diversity Officer under Cuomo and Deputy Chief of Staff under Hochul.

“It’s a staggering indictment,” Molon noted, emphasizing Sun’s roles within the New York State government. Initially, she served as the deputy chief diversity officer under Cuomo and later as the deputy chief of staff for Hochul.

One of the most striking accusations against Sun involves her efforts to suppress any recognition of Taiwan by the New York State government, aligning with the PRC’s stance that Taiwan should not be acknowledged as a separate entity.

Molon explained, “She squelched the relations between New York State and the Taiwanese government and bragged about it to her PRC government contacts.” This act, among others, underscores the extent to which Sun was allegedly willing to go to serve Beijing’s interests.

The financial aspect of the indictment is equally alarming. Sun and her husband are accused of amassing significant wealth through their dealings, including purchasing a $4 million mansion on Long Island, a $2 million condo in Hawaii, and a fleet of luxury vehicles. Molon detailed the dubious financial transactions that facilitated these acquisitions: “Her husband ran a seafood export business, and with Linda’s PRC contacts, exported seafood to China, peddling influence.” Despite these business ventures, their income was insufficient to justify their lavish lifestyle, suggesting that much of their wealth may have been laundered.

“She was so brazen that even after being fired, she continued to represent herself as a part of the New York State government,” Molon pointed out.

Molon emphasized the long-term strategy of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in compromising individuals within the U.S. political system. “If the PRC is willing to invest this much in a member of a governor’s staff, think of how pleased they must be with their investment,” he warned, drawing attention to the broader implications of such influence operations.

The indictment of Linda Sun not only raises questions about the integrity of those in public office but also highlights the persistent and insidious nature of foreign influence in American politics.
