Politicization of Justice: The Matthew Colangelo Controversy

On Monday, Steve Bannon highlighted a recent Fox News digital article about Matthew Colangelo, a former Department of Justice official who has been hired by the Manhattan District Attorney’s office to trash President Donald J. Trump’s chances of winning the 2024 Presidential election. Colangelo, it appears, uses highly corrupt schemes of lawfare against the Presidential candidate.

Here is some of what Bannon said:

What is shocking about this most breaking news is that there is no official confirmation that Colango was working as a highly paid political operative to trash Trump going back to at least 2018, according to Fox News.

“Colangelo, now prosecuting Trump, received payments from DNC for ‘political consulting’ in 2018. Allegations of politicization surround his role in the Manhattan DA’s office. Republicans investigate.” Fox News reported on Monday.

Colangelo’s past involvement with the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and his role as a political consultant targeting former President Donald Trump have raised eyebrows, particularly in the context of his current position working on legal investigations against Trump.

And Bannpn was on fire about it, demanding- once again- the need for Congressional hearings into all points of data on this vast criminal conspiracy against Trump and his candidacy.

“On Fox Digital, just now, we find out that Colangelo was taking money from the DNC in a paid political position, starting from 2018.  So,  where is the investigation? They need to stop dropping this evidence piecemeal, I want to see a formal investigation.  Colangelo is a paid political consultant to go after Trump with the New York, A.G to keep Trumpout of power, right? It’s outrageous,” Bannon said on Monday about the breaking news.

The broader context of Bannon’s comments lies within the ongoing legal battles faced by Trump and his associates, including a criminal investigation by the Manhattan DA’s office into Trump’s business practices.

Colangelo’s journey from the Biden Justice Department to the Manhattan DA’s office, coupled with revelations about his financial ties to the DNC, adds fuel to the fire of suspicions surrounding the case against Trump. His past role in investigating Trump’s foundation during his tenure in the New York Attorney General’s office further complicates matters, raising questions about his impartiality and motives in pursuing legal action against the former president.

The 2018 payments from the DNC to Colangelo for political consulting should serve as a focal point for concerns about the integrity of the legal process in general. Critics argue that such financial ties to a political party undermine prosecutors’ perceived neutrality, particularly when they are tasked with prosecuting individuals from opposing political camps.

In response to these revelations, calls for a formal investigation into Colangelo’s activities and the potential politicization of legal processes have grown louder. Upholding the integrity and impartiality of the justice system is paramount, especially in cases involving high-profile political figures. Only through transparent investigations and adherence to legal principles can public trust in the fairness of the legal process be restored.
