“Boy Meets World” actress Trina McGee is speaking more about being pregnant again at 54 after her announcement caused a stir online earlier this week.
The star already has three children: Ramia, 31, Langston, 29, and Ezra, 25. She shares the first two with ex-husband Courtland Davis and the third with a previous relationship. McGee is expecting this baby with her current husband, Marcello Thedford.
The actress, who played Angela Moore on the popular ’90s TV sitcom, said she’s been trying to have a baby with Thedford by trying natural remedies.
“I have been saying I wanted to have a baby with my current husband of 16 years for quite a while,” McGee told Entertainment Tonight. She went on to tell the outlet she visited “shamans” in Belize who recommended elixirs and natural remedies for reversing signs of early menopause.
“The number one thing for me is to not partake in any stress and stay away from negativity as much as I can, and that pertains to what I put on TV… what I look at on my phone, you know, there’s so much drama and violence and negativity out there as soon as you turn on the screen,” McGee said.
“I really want to be pointed when I turn on the screen; what I’m watching. Because stress, for me, is the biggest factor.”
Some doctors, however, expressed their skepticism of McGee citing “natural remedies” for helping her get pregnant.
“If she is pregnant (naturally) at 54, it is the biggest miracle of my career,” said Dr. Allison Rodgers, an infertility specialist at Fertility Centers of Illinois, according to USA Today.
Dr. Mickey Coffler, a reproductive endocrinologist, added, “I’m not this person’s doctor. I cannot say one way or another how this person got pregnant. But, if there is an elixir getting 54-year-olds pregnant, I’m sure the whole world would be on it.”
McGee said she had considered doing IVF to conceive but ultimately decided against it.
“Just sheer joy, sheer joy, and I don’t partake in any of the negativity anybody has to say about it. I am so happy. I have been blessed, and that’s it,” the actress added. “And all I’m concerned about — I only have one job now – is to have this baby, and that’s what I’m about.”
McGee shared her pregnancy news on Instagram Tuesday, writing, “At the tender age of 54 I have found myself pregnant. Please bless us with your prayers for a safe delivery.”
The actress later told ABC she was surprised by the response.
“Honestly, I didn’t think it was such a big deal … and suddenly I realized it’s very inspirational for a lot of women who are over 40, who are looking to conceive,” McGee said. “When I was typing [my Instagram post], that’s what I was feeling, like there’s somebody out there that is dealing with this that might need a little help and inspiration.”
