Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-WA) suggested on Thursday that President Joe Biden not only quit his re-election campaign but to also resign immediately from his role as president following his disastrous debate performance against former President Donald Trump.

“I’ve spent the past two weeks listening to my constituents express their concerns about the President’s age and health,” she said in a statement. “Like most people I represent in Southwest Washington, I doubt the President’s judgement about his health, his fitness to do the job, and whether he is the one making important decisions about our country, rather than unelected advisors.”

“Americans deserve to feel their president is fit enough to do the job,” she added. “The crisis of confidence in the President’s leadership needs to come to an end. The President should do what he knows is right for the country and put the national interest first.”

Perez’s statement comes as at least 17 major Democrats have called on Biden to quit his re-election campaign in recent days as polls for the most part have shown that the race has shifted in Trump’s favor.

Numerous leaks have come out of the Biden administration and top Democrat circles over the last two weeks about the dire shape that Biden is in and how his family and top aides sought to cover up his condition by limiting access to the president and maintaining strict protocols during his public appearances.

During this time, Trump has largely removed himself from the news cycle in order to keep focus on Biden’s cognitive decline which has resulted in more pressure being put on the 81-year-old president to end his campaign.
